Notification of Departure or Movement of Diplomatic Missions

27 April 2016

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar (Department of Protocol) – presents its best regards to all diplomatic missions and distinguished offices accredited to the State of Qatar,

The Ministry would like to inform the heads of diplomatic missions and distinguished offices accredited to the State that the competent authority has indicated that it has recently been observed that diplomatic missions and offices have left or moved to their new headquarters without prior notice so that the Ministry can coordinate with Establishments and Authorities Security Department - the entity responsible for securing the headquarters of all diplomatic missions and offices accredited to the State.

The failure to notify the Ministry results in guarding these headquarters without the presence of a diplomatic mission, due to the movement of the mission concerned to another new headquarters without coordinating with the Ministry and obtaining its consent to the validity of this movement in terms of security and to assume its responsibilities under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, and to take all measures appropriate to protect the mission headquarters and prevent breaches of their security..

Therefore, the Ministry would like to inform the heads of diplomatic missions and offices accredited to the State of the importance of notification to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Department of Protocol - so that they may notify the relevant security authorities in the event of their departure or movement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar takes this opportunity to express its utmost appreciation and respect to all.

- To all diplomatic missions and distinguished offices accredited to the State of Qatar.
